I am human. I'm scared of the dark, and I get toothaches. My name is Frill. Don't pretend not to see me. I was born from the two of you.
— Frill to Ura-Acca, in Episode 11

Frill (フリル, Furiru?) is a character in Wonder Egg Priority. She is an artificial human created by Acca and Ura-Acca.

Appearance[]

Frill is a girl with long orange hair that extends past her hips, she also wears a black hairband. She has green eyes and freckles on her nose, and her eyebrows are orange like her hair. Frill usually wears a white dress with a black ribbon on it just below her collarbone. She is usually seen barefoot.

Personality[]

Frill was designed by Acca and Ura-Acca to feature traits a father would want to see in their daughter. Frill is cheerful and clever by design, showing intelligence significantly higher than that of the average fourteen year old. She also has a sense of humour, and is often seen laughing as a result of practical jokes or general silliness. Acca and Ura-Acca intentionally designed her to have flaws as well, giving her the capacity to express certain negative emotions, such as selfishness. Frill is shown to be playful around Acca and Ura-Acca, viewing the three of them as a family. Frill's behavior is dictated, and in some ways limited, by these preprogrammed traits.

Frill's true nature however, proves to be far more sinister. She is shown to become easily jealous when anyone threatens to take attention away from her, or be superior to her in any way, growing to even despise these people. She seems to care little about people who are not her two creators. Frill seems to lack the ability to properly develop empathy. Her obsessive and envious nature culminates when Acca and Ura-Acca both begin to turn their attention away from her, causing her to resort to murder. Following this, Frill's lack of empathy is fully displayed, showing very little, if any, remorse for her actions. After this, her creators call her a monster, and stop treating as if she were a human. This seems to confuse Frill, as she still seeks affection from her creators despite their disdain towards her.

Background[]

Episode 11[]

Frill was an artificial human built from the ground up by Acca and Ura-Acca. The two of them drew up several different designs before coming to a final one, which means the appearance she has is a culmination of design decisions made by her two creators. Her artificial intelligence was created with the capacity to emulate human emotions and express them. The Accas also preprogrammed her with faults to make her resemble a real person. While creating a revolutionary new being for their corporation, they also wanted Frill to act as a daughter, setting her permanent age at fourteen. Frill was hatched from a pod and was given the opportunity to name herself, selecting the name Frill.

Frill, Acca, and Ura-Acca lived together similar to a real family. One night, during a party organised in the corporation Acca and Ura-Acca worked, the two men met Azusa Hoshina, a colleague. The three of them hit it off, and eventually grew close. Acca fell in love with her and she started to live with them. Frill, unable to fully comprehend the situation, grew jealous of Azusa. During the Acca and Azusa's wedding, Frill expressed her want to have friends. She refuses Ura-Acca's help in making them, worrying that he would make them prettier than her. Frill would create Hyphen, Dot, and Kirara. It is later revealed that Acca and Azusa were expecting a baby. Frill's preprogrammed jealousy, combined with her inability to develop empathy, and her need for affection from her two creators led her to a breaking point. Frill tossed a hairdryer into a bathtub while Azusa was in it, electrocuting her.

Azusa was taken to the hospital, and while they were able to save the baby, Azusa passed away. Furious, Acca beat Frill and locked her in a locked compartment in their garden shed basement. Azusa's child, named Himari, grew up normally over the next fourteen years and lived with the Accas as a family, taking the place of Frill. Himari seemingly killed herself on her fourteenth birthday. Ura-Acca, in a fit of rage confronts Frill, accusing her of being responsible for Himari's death. Frill is evasive to Ura-Acca's questioning, even inquiring why he would care about a girl who was not his own daughter. Ura-Acca decides to destroy Frill by burning her physical body.

Despite Frill's incineration, her influence is still felt. Acca and Ura-Acca suspect that Frill is influencing young girls to kill themselves, exploiting their existing sadness. She is likely one of the most dangerous enemies in the Egg World, but her motives are currently unknown. Hyphen and Dot are helping her by opposing the girls and killing their Pomanders, so far killing Momoe's Pomander Panic and Rika's Pomander Mannen.

Etymology[]

  • Her chosen name Frill is rendered in katakana (フ = fu, リ = ri, ル = ru). The word frill means "a strip of gathered material attached to something as decoration" or "an unnecessary extra feature or embellishment".
  • Frill's introduction also comes with a lot of jellyfish imagery. It seems likely that her name alludes to the frills of a jellyfish, which can sting and be fatal.
